Threads
Threads username checker
Check a Threads handle, the Instagram handle attached to it, and everything else, in one search.
Checked alongside your domain and every other platform.
The rules
- Up to 30 characters — Threads uses Instagram's handle rules exactly.
- Letters, numbers, full stops and underscores. No hyphens, no spaces.
- Case doesn't matter: @WhisperLook and @whisperlook are one handle.
How we check it
We request the public profile at threads.com/@handle and read the status. Threads answers anonymous requests far more often than Instagram does, which makes it the more dependable of the two — and because the namespaces are shared, a clear answer here usually tells you about Instagram as well.
Threads still rate-limits and occasionally serves a bot check instead of a page. When the answer isn't legible we report Unknown and give you the link, rather than reading a redirect as a free handle.
One claim, two platforms
You cannot hold a Threads handle without the Instagram account it belongs to. Claiming either takes both, which is a rare piece of good news: one signup covers two rows of your set.
Check both rows, not one
They share a namespace but not a response. When Instagram hits a login wall and Threads answers cleanly, the Threads row is the one carrying real information — that's exactly why we ask both.
Common questions
Are Threads and Instagram usernames the same?
Yes. A Threads profile is created from an Instagram account and inherits its username. There is no way to hold one without the other, and no way to make them differ.
Can I join Threads without Instagram?
No. Instagram is the account system behind it, so the Instagram signup is the Threads signup. If the handle is free on Instagram, that is where you claim it.
Why does Threads answer when Instagram doesn't?
They are served differently. Instagram routes most anonymous profile requests into a login wall; Threads returns a real page far more often. Same namespace, different front door — which is why a Threads answer is worth having.
