Bluesky

Bluesky handle checker

Check a Bluesky handle — the cleanest answer on the whole list.

Enter a brand name, username, handle or domain.

Checked alongside your domain and every other platform.

The rules

  • 3 to 18 characters for a bsky.social handle.
  • Letters, numbers and hyphens. No underscores, no full stops.
  • The full handle is yourname.bsky.social; the part you choose is everything before it.

How we check it

Bluesky is built on the AT Protocol, which publishes an open, documented, unauthenticated identity resolver. We ask it to resolve yourname.bsky.social. It either returns an account or it doesn't. There is no login wall, no rate-limit theatre and no ambiguity — this is the most trustworthy check we run.

The resolver answers about bsky.social handles. If you plan to use your own domain as your handle instead, this row stops being the question — the domain rows are.

Your domain can be your handle

Bluesky lets you verify a domain you own and use it as your handle, so @whisperlook.com replaces @whisperlook.bsky.social. It is the one platform where owning the domain directly upgrades the social account — worth knowing before you settle the domain question.

Eighteen characters, no underscores

Shorter than most and stricter about separators. A two-word name here is run together or hyphenated; there is no third option.

Common questions

Can I use my own domain as a Bluesky handle?

Yes, and it is one of the better reasons to own the domain. Bluesky verifies ownership through a DNS record or a file on the site, then lets the domain stand in as your handle. It also acts as a light form of verification, since only the domain's owner can do it.

Is a bsky.social handle permanent?

You can change it, and switching to a domain handle releases the bsky.social one back to the pool. That is worth knowing in both directions: it is how you upgrade later, and it is how a name you assumed was gone can quietly come free.

Why is the Bluesky answer more reliable than the others?

Because the protocol was designed to be asked. The identity resolver is a public endpoint with a documented response, so we are using it as intended rather than reading meaning into a page that was not built to answer us.
